Cuyamaca, Bearcat, & Legacy Dirt Jumps

I want to go right back out there and ride some more!

Scott, Andy, and I headed for the dirt jumps this morning around 10am. They brought along the BMX's and I brought my mountain bike. The first spot was the Cuyamaca jumps in El Cajon, CA. The jumps there are relatively small, but great for learning - and that's definitely what I need. There are some large jumps, but they're being built up right now, so we couldn't ride that line. The set that we rode started with three rollers, a decent sized double, banked turn into a step down, out of the low area on a step up, then back down another step down and finally ending with a step up to flat. Yeah, I know, it hardly makes any sense to me either, but that's what they're called.

The next spot was strictly for spectators. It's called Bearcat and those jumps are HUGE! We walked the area and just imagined how fast you'd have to go to clear the jumps. No one was riding that spot, but we did meet a couple other mountain bikers that were walking the jumps too. They told us about another area, so we decided to check that out instead of going to Chula Vista for our last planned stop.

The last set of jumps were called "Legacy." They were in a canyon, so the run snaked down in between the canyon walls. It was definitely the coolest area we'd been to.

For some reason my derailleur hanger snapped off when we were riding down into the canyon, so I just watched Andy and Scott ride. Legacy's real close to the house and needs some TLC, so we'll probably start going down there at least once a week to build and ride it.

i was at cuyamaca on saturday and some guys on 50s showed up. they were ruining the lips on the jumps so we asked them to stop. they just kept riding so everyone blocked the jumps. the guy ran over the back tire of my friends bike and kicked his helmet. then he got off the dirtbike and the guy that looked to be in his 20s started pushing my 15 year old friend. he was about to beat him up but luckily an adult coming by stopped him and made him leave. that night he came back and destroyed all the jumps with a pick and shovel. he left a note carved in the ground saying "have fun fags. bmx sucks". ya real mature. so there still torn up and were gettin everyone together to fix them. if u can help we will greatly appreciate it. thank you.

WOW! That's a damn shame. Yeah, we'll be back there next weekend. We met some guys at Bearcat that said they were building at Cuyamaca. They're fucking BRUISERS! If they run into the dirtbikers I'm sure they could set 'em straight. As will I if I come across them.

Hey Michael, Dennis, Austin, Adam, Tyler and any one else in San Diego into BMX. My name is Tony and my buddy Mike Tittel (www.miketittel.com) and I are coming out to San Diego, Encinitas, and a few other places from April 8 to 14 to photograph dirt biking, skating and surfing and a bit of life style stuff. We are from Salt Lake and usually shoot climbing and ski stuff. We want to capture that socal feel, west coast guys who have some attitude and love to ride. We are shooting for stock photos and can't pay anything. We will provide the three people we work with a cd with hi res awesome processed images. You would need to sign a model release and we would need your parents to sign as well if you are under 18. We don't need the best riders just reasonable form and people who are comfy in front of a camera. It won't be work, we have a lot of fun when we shoot. If you are interested hit me up at tony.hoare@gmail.com.

Also if any one knows of really cool looking places to shoot I would appreciate any ideas. Especially places that are beautiful, show off a bit of that southern cali feel, maybe with a bit of ocean in the back ground or some palm tree if you get wat I am after. If you can help thanks.

I honestly can't remember where any of those trails were. It's been a couple years and I'm back in Virginia now.
